A Treasure Chest Of Flavor And Memory

"If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you will not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way." Buddha

Sacro Desco means, sacred table. It's been known that the most important time spent with family is at the dinner table. The kitchen is a wonderful place to be creative and work together as a whole.

Every Sunday my Italian family would come together at my Grandparent's home. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Parents and Grandparents came together on this special day. The Sunday football game would be on TV, the smell of Italian Cuisine would fill the air, and the sound of laughter would linger from the kitchen. The sound of meatballs would be frying in the kitchen and everyone always had a taste of it before dinner.

These times have become a memory that I will cherish forever; memories that I hold dear to my heart and one that I intend to record and share with my children. Collecting family recipes, neatly handwritten cards, newspaper clippings and scraps of paper that tells a story, each smudge a memory tucked away as a family heirloom waiting to be revealed will always be a nostalgic time capsule ready to be passed down through generations.

Long before Pinterest boards, Collaging and Social Media, families kept their culinary heritage tucked away: it was a sacred space filled with family secrets, gatherings and whispers from ancestors long ago.

Wouldn't it be nice to create a Timeless Collection to be passed down the family tree?

A recipe box is more than a nostalgic keepsake - it's a practical, personal way to organize your recipes and cooking adventure. If you are interested in starting one, here's how to make it authentically yours.
  1. Choose Your Box: Scope out and find the perfect box that fits your style and needs: wooden or tin. Some of the boxes are already designed and some are unfinished where you can create your own style.
  2. Gather Recipes: Go on a treasure hunt and scope out your favorite recipes, family gems, newspaper clippings and handwritten cards. If you haven't started a Timeless Collection: here's your chance to start now.
  3. Recipe Cards: Index cards works well with this project. Many stores offer decorative cards with images and designs on them. Add your recipes, notes, memorable memories, tips and tricks to the creative dishes and a sincere note if you feel called to: a special written note from yours truly.
  4. Organize With Tabs: Organize the recipes with decorative tabs. Many tabs may include appetizers, soups, salads, dinner and dessert. It's fun to organize by season (seasonal cooking), herbs and spices - magical potions - whatever you're called to create.
  5. Keep It Going: Recipe boxes should grow with you. Add new favorites, update old ones, but keep the old ones as is by having two copies: one old and one updated. Add new traditions and have fun with this.
A recipe box is a timeless treasure: recorded documents that are precious and traditional. Overtime, your time capsule will be filled with coffee stains, oil spills, flour dust and most of all coated with love.
